The owner of the Ravenswood Condo approached us with a collection of different references and ideas for how they would like to change their recently constructed developer condo.
Knowing that the work was going to happen in stages, and that the owner intended to act as the general contractor, our first task was to step back and look at the intended outcome, so that we could develop a cohesive design that would tie the various ideas together in a way that allowed the different elements to be tackled in manageable phases.
The first two design elements are currently in fabrication.
The dining nook will be enclosed by a powder coated steel and curved glass wall with a custom millwork wardrobe in order to become an office or, with the addition of a drapery for privacy, a third bedroom. An underutilized corner of the living space will receive a built-in upholstered banquette, with room for six to gather and dine.
Future work includes converting an open closet into a pantry, and removing much of the currently unreachable kitchen storage. The introduction of the consolidated storage concept has prompted a future planned complete redo of the serviceable, yet overbuilt, contractor-grade kitchen. Removed cabinets and appliances will all be donated for reuse.
Over time, the generic trim, interior doors, hardware, recessed lighting, and HVAC grills are all to be replaced with more thoughtful, minimal, and functional fixtures and finishes.
By leveraging our strong relationships and experience with select fabricators, MAS Studio has curated a trusted network of qualified project partners, streamlining the process for the owner to select the right team for this project.
